Devine Design ~
Kate Mulligan and Cassandra August met on the job at one of 'America's
dirtiest jobs' in Moss Landing, MarkConcrete.) Together, under the tutelage of owner Mark Lesnick, they have joined forces in exploring concrete, using forms to create unique meditation walls for use in interior living spaces, as well as separate structures known as 'Meditation Huts' for individual solace in exterior landscapes.
Aspiring to be followers of desingers like Ross Lovegrove, where "...curiousity and instinct work together to create amazing art. (Industrial art is the artform of the 21st century.)" What better medium than concrete to work in, particularly Iguanacrete, a new force of concrete nature, and green (100% concrete, with 0% Portland cement!) MarkConcrete uses locally available products including waste glass (San Leandro, CA) and granite dust (Aromas, CA). Overall recycled content is over 95% and more than 65% is sourced locally, so our walls and huts have naturally sourced elements as well as superior stregnth and durability.

The stand alone walls incorporate textural elements that form a meditative surface on which to rest and ponder upon. where the play of light and shadow are as valuable as the structure itself. The 'MH's, also known as Lotus huts, are custom built units, whose purpose is to hold one's attention/ peace of mind within, and restore personal tranquility by offering visual elements in the form of etched walls that incorporate personal symbols and effigies, crystals, candle light and patterns of natural light to pour over the space as the sun transits the sky from season to season, (Think a personal 'micro Stonehenge'.)
As far as instinct and versatility, we don't just think on our feet, we dance with concrete! OK, sometimes it's just mud-wrestling, but like the Buddhist mind set,our journey is likened to the Lotus, from the roots embedded in the mire, to the blossoming blissful flower floating on the surface of the mind's eye - our vision and journey is the path of creative realization.
