When I think of Seaside, I think of dunes, salty air, ocean breezes and views across the bay. Staying at Cate’s in Seaside was a warm experience. Her house reflects the heart and mind of an artist who cultivates her connection with nature and earthly beings. She’s a gracious host who provides a warm welcome and stay with amenities one finds at a bed and breakfast. A glass of wine, a fresh cheese, a delicious cracker or bread, and tea or coffee served on heirloom china, presented on a credenza overlooking a picture window, with a bouquet of gorgeous heirloom roses from her garden. Cate could be described as somewhat of a wanderlust, so hosting travelers in such a beautiful area as is the Monterey Bay and the northern tip of the California Central Coast is a vicarious complement to her love of culture, art, and travel. She fills in as concierge when it comes to information about the best places to dine, whether you want fancy or modest or to go. She can tell you the best places to go for a walk on the beach or a hike through a natural park. And she knows the places to go for music or art, theater or cinema, shopping, etc. We enjoyed the cool ocean air through the night, and on an early morning walk before breakfast. And what a fine breakfast, such that one would enjoy in a quaint café in a small European village. We appreciate all the small and lovely details. It was a lovely stay.
